Code of Conduct

The Centre for Tropical Biodiversity Conservation (CTBC) is dedicated to creating a secure and inclusive environment for its members. This Code of Conduct establishes guidelines for responsible behavior during CTBC-sponsored events related to research, outreach, and conservation.

CTBC strictly prohibits any form of discrimination or harassment based on gender identity, race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, or religious belief. Equal access and opportunities for participation in CTBC activities are vital to the society's functioning.

Participants in CTBC activities are expected to treat each other with respect and foster a collegial atmosphere that encourages the free exchange of ideas, irrespective of a person's identity. This policy applies to all society-related activities, both online and in-person, including meetings, workshops, field trips, mixers, and working groups. CTBC has a zero-tolerance policy towards discriminatory behavior and member harassment.

Section 2: Expectations from Members during Online or In-person Interactions during TropicalBioSummit

  • Treat all individuals with respect, regardless of their background, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or affiliation.
  • Promote an inclusive and welcoming environment where diverse perspectives are valued.
  • Conduct yourself professionally in all interactions during the conference.
  • Be mindful of your language, tone, and behavior, both online and in-person.
  • Encourage open and constructive dialogue related to biodiversity conservation.
  • Share knowledge, research findings, and insights to foster learning and collaboration.
  • Actively seek opportunities to work together on conservation initiatives.
  • Respect the privacy and consent of others, especially when sharing personal information or data.
  • Obtain consent for any recording, photography, or data collection during the conference.
  • Provide feedback and criticism in a constructive and respectful manner.
  • Use proper channels for addressing concerns or grievances.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, event guidelines, and relevant laws and regulations.

Section 3: Guidelines for Conduct during Online or In-person TropicalBioSummit Activities: Unacceptable Behaviors

  • Harassment, including but not limited to verbal, written, or visual harassment, is strictly prohibited. This includes unwelcome comments, jokes, or advances based on gender, race, religion, or any other protected characteristic.
  • Discrimination or bias against any individual or group based on protected characteristics is unacceptable.
  • Any behavior that disrupts the conference, such as trolling, spamming, or deliberate interference, will not be tolerated.
  • Hate speech, offensive language, or the promotion of violence or discrimination is strictly forbidden.
  • Posting or sharing inappropriate or offensive content, including explicit material, is not allowed.
  • Bullying, including cyberbullying, is unacceptable and will be dealt with seriously.
  • Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct or repeated violations of organizational policies may result in disciplinary actions, including suspension or expulsion from the organization.

Reporting Violations

If you witness or experience any violations of this Code of Conduct during the conference, please report them promptly to the event organizers or the organization's designated contact. We take all reports seriously and will take appropriate action to address violations and maintain a safe and respectful environment for all members.
